Agile Rising wanted to see if they could get a cookie banner on their site, at the very least to control Google Analytics cookies.
PIC sold them a PIC Point to allow Matt to take it as far as possible, then regroup. Here’s how the project worked…
- Allow Cookiebot to scan the site.
- Matt reviews how key scripts deploy on the site. AGI deploys Google Analytics from a Woocommerce extension, so it can’t be controlled with GTM.
- Drop Cookiebot auto-blocking script on the site for only EU users. Matt uses VPN to test and finds that it broke the following functions:
Hamburger menu on mobile
Stripe credit card form
CAPTCHA on Gravity Forms - Matt removes auto-blocking script
- Research into GTM + WordPress plugins that support Woocommerce
- Matt finds and tests two GTM plugins: one is able to report on eCommerce data with minimal edits to GTM and no additional markups needed in site code
- Matt deploys new GTM plugin and sets up GTM to work with Woocommerce following dev instructions
- Matt gives Brad a summary of where the project is at and net steps to getting Cookiebot working with the site.
For most clients, working on Cookie Consent on a stop-and-go basis via points is the best option because it keeps the contract cost controlled for all parties.
