TikTok was the most downloaded app of 2020. In August 2020, Instagram released Reels, their attempt at a platform that supports short-video style content just like TikTok.

In its current state, Instagram Reels can be used to increase engagement with your brand, increase followers of your business, or have your content reach a new audience.

Some of the best content for businesses to post on Reels right now is showcasing your work environment, giving virtual tours of houses or other properties, showing off products or deals that are currently running, and educational videos such as tips and tricks associated with a company’s products or services.

Instagram Reels does not have any options available yet for advertisers to “boost” posts or promote products. Currently, Instagram is focusing on building a base of core users before they launch any advertising options.

As shown below, some brands and influencers that use both TikTok and Instagram Reels are seeing increased engagement on Instagram Reels. The major challenge is getting large-scale influencers to transfer from TikTok to Instagram Reels.
