Klaviyo: Dynamic Coupon Codes

Category : Knowledge Share

What are Dynamic Coupon Codes?

In Klaviyo, you can create single-use coupon codes to ensure each customer receives a unique code. This gives you an alternative to creating generic coupon codes for promotions or sales in which everyone receives and uses the same coupon code.

For example, a customer may get a code that looks like “HELLO5G89J1S” instead of “HELLO15”.

How do they work?

Once you’re integrated with your online store, you can create coupons directly in Klaviyo. Once you set the parameters of the coupon (name, discount, expiration terms), you can add it to an email with this code: {% coupon_code ‘NAME_OF_YOUR_COUPON’ %}.

Klaviyo will then automatically generate the dynamic coupon code when the email is sent (whether to an individual or to a list).

What are the benefits?

Create a Sense of Urgency
Coupons are great for encouraging purchases, especially if a customer is dragging their feet. But being able to tell the customer the coupon expires in 24 or 48 hours helps up the ante a bit.

Set and Forget
These are great for workflows because you can use them strategically to encourage purchases without any extra effort. If a customer isn’t converting, a coupon email can be tacked onto the end of a workflow and automatically send to them.

Discourage / Eliminate Coupon Sharing
Since these are unique codes, there’s no chance of them being shared with friends or added to one of those coupon sites.

Automatically Apply
If desired, you can also create links that automatically apply the coupon code to the shopping cart when they click on it in the email.
