Shopify Unite Conference: Online Store 2.0

Category : Knowledge Share

At the Shopify Unite Conference in June of 2021, the Online Store 2.0 was revealed. There are some new features for this update. Let’s take a look!

Theme and Editor
The themes in the Shopify online store are now more modular using blocks. You can arrange the store design within the Shopify online store customizer. Shopify changed the structure of the themes for better editing.

Store Content
You can now access Metafields directly on the admin. Within the customizer, Metafield content can be added directly.

Developer Tooling
There is now a theme app extension for Shopify online stores. App Blocks are added through apps. Developer tools for injecting scripts and other elements are now available and there are easy connections to Git Repo. The Shopify client through the console is adding more tools, for speed checks and recommendations on theme fixes.

Some other items in the updated Shopify Online Store 2.0 is a boilerplate created by Shopify for developers to start building in it called Dawn. It’s optimized for latest browsers, speed optimization, and performance.

Soon this year, we will be able to create custom types like CPTS in WordPress. These will be easily connected with other elements through Metafields. Script tags will be changed to App Blocks.
