Google Analytics Alerts for Traffic Changes

Category : Google Analytics

We’ve had a few clients have traffic / tracking issues on their sites recently. These issues sometimes go unnoticed until prepping for a meeting (or the client catches it). Google Alerts can help notify us of potential issues right when they happen.

To set up, navigate to your Google Analytics View > click Admin > Scroll down in the View column > click Custom Alerts > click +New Alert

Set your notification preferences, how often you want the alert to run, and your conditions (i.e. what the alert is monitoring). You can set strict values to monitor or % changes in traffic.

Some important ones to set up that could indicate a tracking issue…

  • No Data Collected (monitoring low visits)
  • High Bounce
  • Low Bounce
  • Rise in Referral Traffic (monitoring spam)
  • Rise in Direct Traffic
