Paradise Solar Energy Calculator

Category : Knowledge Share

Using a Small Team, PIC built a calculator for the client Paradise Solar Energy. Paradise Solar Energy is a family-owned business that helps install & service solar energy systems for homes, businesses, and farms. They are based in Paradise, PA but span from West Virginia to Ohio to New York to Delaware and more.

You can visit their site for more information here!

The challenge PIC addressed was that users and visitors to Paradise’s site had no frame of reference on what solar projects like this could cost and weren’t sure if they were a candidate for a solar energy system solution.

We created a calculator that allows users to get a fast estimate based on their personal appliances and energy usage. Some math is applied behind the scenes to give the user a real-time estimate of how many inverters & batteries they would need and results in an estimated cost.

You can see the calculator working in the video below and give it a try yourself by following this link!

We built a HubSpot custom module with React. The React framework was chosen because we wanted on-click estimate changes, similar to what you see in formulaic spreadsheets. In fact, this is an image of the excel sheet we received with the math behind the calculator.

Several options were presented to the client. UX did a full research with examples they send and other examples found across the web in order to make the interface as intuitive as possible for visitors to Paradise Solar Energy’s site. Icons were created for each of the appliances.

The module backend needed to be simple for the client or marketer to:

  1. Add / remove devices
  2. Change device settings
  3. Add / remove inverter models
  4. Inverter models settings
  5. Add / remove batteries
  6. Batteries settings
  7. Configure pricing
  8. Edit notes

After the calculator is filled out, as a user of the calculator, you receive an email with your configuration and estimate!

When you click in “Request Your Custom Quote” in the email, you are sent to a landing page to get a custom quote and a follow up from Paradise Solar Energy.
